The History of Pickleball in Parker County
Pickleball was initially played in Parker County at local churches and the Junior Tennis courts at Soldier Spring park run by Parker County Tennis Association. By 2021 Pickleball enthusiasts realized the need for a group to work with the City of Weatherford. An Advisory Board formed to manage play, teaching, and communication with the City.
By 2022, demand outpaced court space. The Advisory Board realized a more formal structure was needed and stablished the Parker County Pickleball Association (PCPA), a 501(c)(3). The first official meeting was held June 14, 2022, at Northside Baptist Church. A Board of Directors was formed and Officers were elected.
The PCPA’s mission became clear: build strong partnerships with the City and local organizations to expand court access.
The officers met frequently with representatives from the Parks Department regarding pickleball court build options. After about 18 months of discussions and disappointments the Parks Department was able to find the bulk of the funds to build the courts. All that was needed now was a positive vote from the City Council on the proposal to build new courts. Our players showed up BIG at the October 2023 City Council meeting voicing the need for new pickleball courts. Once the City Council approved the project the Parks Department moved forward with having the courts built.
The ten shaded courts at Love St Park were dedicated on May 9, 2024 with a great crowd of players, City Officials, and the Chamber of Commerce joining in on the festivities. Future Board meetings consisted of planning tournaments, leagues, and policies to operate the courts. Today, Pickleball continues to thrive in Parker County, with new players joining
weekly and the community working together to expand opportunities for play.

We partner with the City of Weatherford and the local communities to educate and foster the love of pickleball.
